SECOND GRADE

In Second Grade, students build upon the foundational skills learned in First Grade while developing independence, accountability, and responsibility. The curriculum focuses on nurturing academic, social, and spiritual growth in a Christ-centered environment.

Character Development

  • Students practice teamwork through group projects, partner work, small group collaboration, and large group participation.

  • Character growth is emphasized both inside the classroom and during activities and playtime.

Bible

  • Builds on the Bible foundation with a focus on the New Testament.

  • Students explore the life and teachings of Jesus and how they can live out their faith.

  • Daily prayer and weekly Bible verse memorization strengthen spiritual understanding.

Math

  • Builds fluency in addition and subtraction.

  • Introduces skip counting by 3’s and 4’s as a foundation for multiplication.

  • Covers multiplication and division facts.

  • Focuses on double-digit and triple-digit addition and subtraction.

Reading

  • Develops comprehension skills through Accelerated Reader and other guided reading activities.

  • Encourages a love of reading by introducing chapter books appropriate for Second Grade readers.

Language Arts

  • Students learn grammar rules and build skills for effective writing.

  • Daily Writing Workshop enhances creativity and develops abilities in letter writing, personal narratives, and paragraph construction.

Science

  • Topics include states of matter, planets, weather, animals, and plants.

  • Lessons incorporate interactive, hands-on activities to deepen understanding.

Social Studies

  • Explores communities, cultures, and map skills to help students understand the world around them.

Enrichment Programs

  • Weekly enrichment classes include Spanish, Physical Education, Library, Music, Art, STEM, and Computer Lab.

Field Trips

  • Field trips are designed to enhance classroom studies, providing students with real-world connections to their learning.

Spiritual Growth

  • Students participate in weekly chapel, where they engage in worship, prayer, and lessons about living as followers of Christ.
