FIRST GRADE
At Cornerstone Christian School, our First Grade program builds upon foundational skills to foster academic, social, and spiritual growth. Core subjects and enrichment activities are taught with a Christ-centered focus, helping students grow in knowledge and faith.
Bible
Students study Creation and key Old Testament figures.
Lessons include the life and ministry of Jesus, connecting biblical teachings to everyday life.
Weekly Bible verse memorization strengthens their understanding of God’s Word.
Language Arts
Focus on phonics, word recognition, and reading comprehension strategies.
Emphasis on building reading fluency and understanding through guided practice.
Weekly spelling tests reinforce vocabulary and phonics skills.
Writing skills are developed through engaging, age-appropriate activities.
Math
Exploration of foundational concepts such as fact families, word problems, and double-digit addition.
Introduction to money, time, fractions, geometry, and measurement.
Science
Students view creation through a biblical lens, exploring God’s work in the natural world.
Topics include mammals, fish, birds, insects, seasons, plants, gardening, and weather.
Hands-on experiments and group projects, including an animal habitat diorama, encourage active learning.
Social Studies
Students learn about their community, California, the United States, and the world.
Lessons cover notable Americans who shaped our nation and fought for freedoms.
Enrichment Classes
Weekly opportunities include Music, Physical Education, seasonal arts and crafts, Computer, Library, STEM, and Spanish.
Special activities like daily prayer, weekly chapel, and Bible verse memorization help students grow spiritually.
