The laptop or Chromebook device must meet the minimum specifications below, and be able to run the current version of Google Chrome. The device will need to be made available to our tech department prior to the start of school, to be properly configured for school use. You are encouraged to consider the purchase of an accidental damage protection plan when you purchase a new device. If the device you have now meets the specifications and is in good working order, there is no need to purchase a new device.
Laptop computers should be brought to school before August 20th
School office hours during the summer are 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, or call to make an appointment to drop off. Please have computers labeled and the passcode either taped to the device or disabled for configuration.
Computer Requirement for Middle School Students
All CCS Middle School Students in grades 6-8 will be required to have either a Chromebook or other type of laptop computer (Windows or Apple Mac) available for school use. This will allow us to fully integrate technology resources into the Middle School classroom environment. The laptop must be brought to school daily with a fully charged battery.
● Returning CCS Middle School students can continue to use the laptop or Chromebook they are currently using for school.
● If you own a laptop that meets the specifications and is in good working order, there is no need to purchase a new device.
● The week before school starts, all student laptops must be submitted to the school technical department to be tested and set up for use at CCS.
● Laptops used at the school may be inspected at any time during the school year to ensure that their use is compatible with the CCS technology acceptable use policy.
Minimum Laptop or Chromebook Requirements
Device specifications. The laptop or Chromebook device must meet required specificationsand be able to run the current version of Google Chrome. The device must also be eligible for auto-updates from Google Chrome until at least 2026. We suggest that you purchase an accidental damage protection plan (warranty) when you purchase a new device.
Please Note: A computer that meets the minimum requirements below will be satisfactory for students doing CCS classwork, however its speed, display, keyboard and touchpad may not be optimum for other uses. For example Chromebook computers won’t run many programs that run on Windows computers.
Chromebook minimum requirements:
These computers are designed for student use. They are light-weight, operate over 10 hours from a charged battery. They have no hard disk drive and are designed to save data in the cloud. They only run programs that are Chrome OS compatible; they run Zoom.
Chrome OS automatic update expiration: 2026 or longer. Each Chromebook model receives automatic updates for a fixed number of years after that brand/model was introduced. Windows 10 or Windows 11
Acceptable versions: Home or Pro or Enterprise.
Unacceptable versions: S-mode or Education (these limited capability computers can only load Microsoft Store programs and are not supported by Google Chrome or Zoom).
